Game one: Freds vs Good Strokes
    Freds 11 - Strokes 6

Freddy's gets clutch last minutes hits to hold off Strokes 11-6. Freddy's box score was a numeric palindrome (5-0-0-1-0-0-5). Pretty good defense and generally poor hitting by both clubs leads to low scoring game.

Freddy's was led offensively by Greg (2 for 2, 2 BB and 2 runs scored), Sua (2 for 4 with a HR and 2 RBIs), and Steve (1 for 3, HR, SAC and 4 RBI). Steve's HR, was the longest on record at Haliimaile this year nearly blowing a hole in the warehouse behind the left field fence. Freddy's defense was led by Zac's diving catch in left center to quiet a Strokes rally.

The Strokes get solid offensive production from Chad (3 for 3, 2 RBI) and Ruben (2 for 3, 1 Run scored).

In next week's action, Strokes takes on heavy hitting Pounders while Freddy's looks to avenge an early season defeat against King of the Road.

***Editor's note - The writer of this story has taken poetic license in his recollection of the game. The Home Run in question never left the park and may actually have had the shortest flight of a home run this year. No warehouses were injured. League officials have warned the author and threatened suspension. Comment by league official on condition of anonymity, “We will not stand for writer’s using words like palindrome!”

Game Two: Pounders vs Wild Wheels Wentals
    Pounders 12 - Wheels 9

The Pounders avoided getting run over by the Wheels 12 -9 as pitcher Jeff Green returned to the mound to earn the victory. The Wheels overcame an early Pounder lead with some clutch hitting to take a lead into the late innings. But the resilient Pounders avoided the flat tire syndrome by scoring some late inning runs to secure the victory.

The Pounders appeared to come out flat for this game and it is believed that the new pinkie tie die shirts sported by the Wheels were the main reason. With the win, the Pounders improved to 8 - 0 on the season while the Wheels fell to 1 - 7.

    Top hitters for the Pounders were Larry, 3 - 4, 1 run, 1 RBI; Sean, 2 - 2, 2 runs; Jeff, 2 - 3, 2 runs and Phil, 2 - 4, 4 runs. Wheels : Rico, 3 - 4, 2 runs; Brad, 3 - 4, 1 run, 2 RBI; Ray, 3 - 4, 2 runs and Danno, 2 -4, 1 RBI led the Wheels. Next week, the Pounders tackle the Strokes while the Wheels square off against Polli's.

Game Four: Pollis vs Long Shots
    Pollis 19 - Shots 11

This game almost didn't happen. With 15 minutes until game time, the Shots had 6 players and Pollis had only 5. But just before the scheduled first pitch, players miraculously showed up for both teams and the game was on.

Pollis started off with a bang, scoring 6 runs in the first to the Shots 1 and after 3 innings Pollis led 12 to 1. In the bottom of the 5th, the Shots needed to get 4 runs to stave off the dreaded 10 run rule and got them to stay alive.

From the gallery on Hecklers Hill, the game became a quest to cheer for a long time Haliimaile veteran and good friend, "Viking" Keith Feigum, to get his first hit of the season. He hasn't been playing much and has got to be rusty as hell. He did have a chance in the 6th inning when he hit a little pop fly over the infield that was tracked down by Pollis shortstop Johhny V. and dropped. We thought it might be scored a hit, but the official scorer said no, to chorus of boo's.

    Pollis standouts were Mike Anderson: 5-5, 4 singles, 1 triple, 2 rbi's, 3 runs and "Hot Dog of the Week" honors - Kenny Wilson: 4-4, 2 rbi's, 2 runs - Chris V: 3-4, 1 double, 1 walk, 3 runs - Johnny V: 3-4, 3 rbi's, 3 runs. For the Long Shots it was Ryan C: 3-3, 1 walk, 2 rbi's, 1 run - Chuck McMillan: 2-3, 1 walk, 1 rbi, 3 runs - Kyle Borchert: 3-5, 1 double, 1 run - Woody: 3-5, 1 run.

Next week Pollis faces Wild Wheels Wentals and the Long Shots take on the winless No Hair B.A.
