    ~ Last Saturday's games ~

    Game one: No Hea vs Pounders
    Pounders 21 - No Hea 11

    The Pounders clinched their third consecutive league championship Saturday morning with a 21 to 11, five-inning victory over No Hea. The Pounders came out smoking in this one to score early and often as Sean and Klash combined to go 8 for 8 with 3 home runs and 12 RBI.

    No Hea managed to make a game of it in the fourth inning as they rallied to score eight times to close to 16 - 11. The big hit was a three-run homer to center field by Kaipo. But the relentless Pounders answered by scoring four in the home half of the fourth inning and once more in the bottom of the fifth to put away the improving No Hea squad.

    Probably the best defensive play of the day for the Pounders actually occurred after the game. During the Fred's - Polli's game, an out of play pop foul drifted over the fence to threaten the health and welfare of the Heckler's Hill residents. But out of nowhere came Pounder shortstop Sean Steadman who flew threw the air to make a diving, sliding catch of the errant pop tart. Truly a remarkable play, especially when considering half of the Hill had no clue as to what was going on while the other half was running for cover.

    Leading hitters for the Pounders were Sean, 4 - 4, 2 HR, 3 runs, 7 RBI; Klash, 4 -4, HR, 4 runs, 5 RBI; Larry, 3 -3, 4 runs, 3 RBI and Shad, 3 - 4, 3 RBI.

    No Hea was led by Kaipo, 2 - 3, HR, 2 runs, 3 RBI; Kato, 2 -3, 2 RBI; Ikaika, 2 -3, 2 runs, 2 RBI and Brandon, 2 - 3, 2 runs, 1 RBI.

    Next Saturday marks the end of the regular season with the games to be held at Eddie Tam field. The Pounders will be facing Polli's while No Hea will be seeking their second win of the season against Fred's.

    Game Two: Long Shots vs King of the Road
    Kings 21 - Shots 20

    Saturday morning 'yard work' pays off for King of the Road...

    From the start it seemed like it was going to be the Long Shots' day. They jumped out to early 8-3 lead and continued their assault to increase the scoring to 17-9. An unbelievable amount of their runs scored with two outs and their defense chipped in with stellar grabs all around the field. It really looked like the Long Shots were about to pull out a big W, especially after Chuck's second two-out bases clearing triple.

    However, King of the Road wouldn't be denied. Playing with only 9 players, the outfielders were pushed to the max but came up big. Combined with some key put-outs in the infield and the ability to score in each inning, The King were able to scratch and claw their way back into the game.

    James nearly carried the team in the early innings, going 4 for 4 with 2 mammoth homers. But in the end, it was the big bat of Jason that dramatically closed the books on this one. His crushing 3 run walk off homer lifted King of the Road to victory and creates a tie for second place atop the standings.

    Leading hitters for King of the Road;
    James: 4-4, 2 HR, 2 2B, 6 RBI | Jason: 1 HR, 4 RBI, 4 hits, 4 runs | Kepa: 4 hits, 1 2B, 2 runs | Paul: 4 hits, 2 RBI

    Leading hitters for Long Shots;
    Chuck: 2 3B, 4 RBI, 3 runs | Allen: 4-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI | Jack: 4-5, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 runs | Johhny A.: 4 RBI | Lathan: 3 runs | Ted: 3 RBI Ray Schroeder King of the Road

    Game Three: Freds vs Polii's
    Freds 39 - Polli's 36

    In a classic Haliimaile pitchers dual, Fred's Electric beats Polli's 39-36 in extra innings. The combined 75 runs scored is one of the highest run totals in HSL history. Polli's had several hitters get up to bat 9 times in an 8-inning game!

    Hitting was the name of this game to say the least. Polli's employed their relentless base hit attack (37 total hits) that nearly did in Fred's. However, Fred's was able to take advantage of some timely 2 out hitting and 12 extra base hits to stay in the game. Fred's scored 17 of their 39 runs with 2 outs.

    Polli's had Fred's down 28-21 heading into the 6th inning. Fred's put 11 runs on the board, 8 of which came with 2 outs. After the home team put up 2 more in the bottom half, Fred's held a slim 32-30 lead. Fred's went down quietly in their half of the 7th with the only goose egg of the game. Polli's then tied the game and had the bases loaded with 2 outs when JR made a great stop and throw on a ground ball headed up the middle.

    With the game tied 32-32, Fred's got 2 quick outs in the top of the 8th and looked destined for another heartbreaking loss. However, this time they came through with clutch hitting to score 7 runs with 2 out. The two big blows were bases clearing triples by Zac and Jeff. Polli's mounted a quick come back. They loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning. But with 2 outs and the tying runs on base, a grounder to short turned into a force out at second to end the marathon.

    Leading hitters for Fred's were Kurt, 5 for 6, HR, double, 4 runs; Steve, 3 for 4, 2 HRs, 6 RBI, 4 runs; Kris, 5 for 7, double, triple, 4 RBI; JR, 4 for 6, 2 doubles, 3 RBI, 5 runs; Sua, 4 for 6, 3 RBI; Zac, 4 for 6, 2 triples, 3 RBI, 5 runs. Leading hitters for Polli's were Kevin, 4 for 4, double, 5 BB, 5 runs; Brian, 7 for 8, double, triple, 7 RBI, 6 runs; Paul, 5 for 7, 4 RBI, 5 runs; Andy, 4 for 6, 2 HRs, 6 RBI, Charlie, 4 for 6, 3 runs; Ben, 4 for 6, 3 RBI, 4 runs.

    A special thanks to the umpires from Wheels. They endured a world-class crybaby fest throughout the game. Remember you get what you pay for. At HSL, we're lucky to get volunteer umps that do a solid job a vast majority of the time. It's ironic that most of the bitching comes from guys who never seem to help out as umpires.
