Spring 2002 Season Tournament In a lopsided title game where Polli's just went flat, the Pounders won their 4th straight Haliimaile Tournament title. I don't have the scorebook or I would post the stats. League MVP & RBI Champ: Jeff Cochran - Freds
It was a tight race for MVP and the award went to a well deserving player. He won the rbi crown with 40 rbi. Jeff also missed out, by 1 point, in the Hotdog of the Year award.
For the season, Jeff went 31 for 49, 15 sgls, 6 dbls, 2 tpls, 8 hr, 7 bb's, 25 runs and 40 rbi. Homerun Champ: Sean Steadman - Pounders
Sean started out slow but made up for it in the last half of the season. He ended the season with 10 homers.
Batting Champ: Kelly Fliear - Polli's
It was an extremely tight race for the batting title. Keith Troxel had held the batting avg. lead throughout the entire season until the last game when kelly went 2 for 2 with a walk and Trox going 1 for 3.
Most Walks: Charlie Freaking - Polli's
Charlie was awarded the "Golden Cane" by the league for walking his way on base 11 times during the current season narrowly egding out "Cyber" Chuck McMillan (10) in his last game.
Hotdog of the Year: Brian - Polli's -no picture- Only having played in 4 games this season, Brian made the best of it in the 13th game. He went 7 for 8, 5 sgls, 1 dbl, 1 trpl, 1 walk, 7 rbi & 6 runs to amass a total of 31 points, edging out MVP Jeff Cochran with 30. |
The Jonathan Waxman Award: The Brothers Fanara - Polli's
Kevin Fanara's tireless work over the years in the making of the awards that are given to the winners and older brother Mike Fanara for writing the program that does the stats on the website which revolutionized the Haliimaile stats keeping process.
Mike's comments: I'd like to express my sincere thanks to the Haliimaile Softball League committee for honoring my brother Kevin and I with the Jonathan Waxman award. I'm grateful that I was given an opportunity to be part of the league once again. It's because of the players, the friendships, the competition and the "family" atmosphere that makes Haliimaile so special. I might have had to leave the league, but the league has never left me. Thanks again, Mike. Maui .no ka oi.. The Broken Bat Award: Keith Feigum - Long Shots
Keith did not do well at the plate this year. Usually doing a much better job hitting, he had off field distractions this season keeping him from concentrating on softball. He hit for an .074 avg in 10 games. Being one of the longtime "characters" of Haliimaile, he graciously accepted the award which, by the way, was one of the nicest looking awards given out that day.
