Oli's "Bradda's" Win 2001 Mo'morial!

After losing to the Pounders and being sent to the losers bracket to start the tournament, Da Bradda's battled there way back, playing 4 games back to back, to beat the Pounders twice to win the Championship.

Beating the Strokes & Motrin, they faced off with the Pounders in the 1st game of the finals coming out with an awesome barrage of hits. Since it was a finals game and no 10 run rule was in effect [and there is no time limit at Haliimaile], Da Bradda's pounded the Pounders 42-17 in a 2 hr game. The second finals game was a little more realistic at 14-10 with a bunch of tired Braddas coming out victoious.

Pounders League Champs Again!.

The Pounders once again pounded their way to the league championship with a 10-2 record. Their combination of outstanding hitting and stellar defense was, again, too much for even their closest rival, as they defeated 2nd place Fred's Electric twice during the Fall 2001 season.

We had no Triple Crown champion this year with Sean Steadman of the Pounders winning the RBI & Homerun championships. Steadman started out the first part of the season like gangbusters, going 18-21 but then running into a batting slump in the latter part of the season.

The batting title goes to Mark "Klash" Klaska of the Pounders, finishing the year with a .781 avg. - 25-32, 21 rbi, 20 runs scored and 6 homeruns.

Congratulations go out to Steadman, Klash and the Pounders on their winning season. On to the post season!

Upset Saturday
by Chuck McMillan

In a season that seemed to be going along, for the most part with no surprises, teams that were expected to win, won and teams that were suppossed to lose, lost. The new team on the block struggled in this highly competitive league and the reigning champs continued on there winning roll in a matter of fact way. There seemed to be no change in site, but a sudden change like the trades suddenly blowing Kona was about to happen this Saturday.

The first sign that things were about to change happened when a catchable (2 out) fly ball was dropped by the Pounders (in Pounders vs Kings) which turned into 6 runs for the Kings. The game eventually ended in an 11 to 10 upset victory for the Kings. The Pounders had finally been defeated and were in jepardy of losing first place because of the Pounders vs Pollies match at the end of the season meant Pounders were no longer a shoe-in for season champs.

The next sure sign that something was in the air was when Strokes took on Pollis. In another close game Strokes beat Pollis 17 to 16 in the bottom of the 7th. The feeling was out there that something was up and when the next game started, the sentiment was that the winless No Hea were about to get there first win. The Wheels were not going to go for it and they too were about to find out the meaning of "Upset Saturday". In the end, of a 10 run rule - 5 inning game, No Hea won their first game with only 2 games left in the season. Another upset.

By then the Hill was going off with chants and remarks about this already incredible day. So when the 3rd place Fred's walked down Hecklers Hill to play the 6th place Long Shots, the remarks were flying from everywhere. The most quotable remark came from Rob Roberts (coach of Pounders), "You don't need to go on the field, you've already lost."

As the game was about to begin the Hill became loud with chants of support for the Long Shots. There were very few people rooting for Freds, the Hill wanted one thing, another upset. With the Shots 6 run start in the first inning they became more convinced and as the 0's began to show up on the scoreboard for Fred's - the comments became more ruthless from the Hill. Like Shawn Steadman's comment "Were running out of zero's". The game ended with the Long Shots defeating Freds 17 to 7 in 6 innings. Another Upset.

In the end all underdogs had won their games. The only undefeated team had lost and the only winnless team had won, but there was one more magical story yet untold. Keith Feigum who had to be taken off the field last week in an ambulance and who had struggled, unusually, with no hits this season had got his first hit this day and it was a homerun - of course.

Haliimaile Hit by "Tornado"

The "tornado/dirt devil" appeared after all games
had been completed, but the kids were out there to enjoy it.
It didn't cause any damage except engulf the kids
in red dirt, lol.
