Wednesday - Mar 2, 2005 -- Gary Distasio
This is an email from Gary Distasio I received a couple weeks ago:

This will be the third or fourth time that I have contacted you guys. I think its awesome that your website is doing well and that you have some new features and teams. Everytime I think of Maui I go to your site, which is pretty often.

What killer memories I have. If you could send a shout out to my braddas on the Pounders, I would greatly appreciate it. and tell Kevin F. that I miss him. I just graduated nursing school and will be able to take care of the makules like Klashka.

Mahalo and Aloha, Gary

Wednesday - Nov 17, 2004 -- "Old IZZO" Returns
This is an email from IZZO I received about a week ago:

I talked with Boyd a few years ago and talked about the league. Kenny Wilson, myself, Mo and many of the old timers go way back. I built the first scoreboard at the field and Pollies was always the team to beat. Every 3 day weekend we were in a tourney on or off island.

I just got done visiting your web site. You guys have done a great job and the mo-morial is a great thing for Maui and to keep Mo's memory alive. Mo and I were great friends and golf partners. He was a special person. His spirit and love of life will never die.

I have lived off the islands now for 18 years but I miss the aloha and great days at Haliimaile. I sent Kenny a dvd of some of the games we had before I left Maui. If you get a chance ask him to show it to you guys. You all must know how lucky you are to enjoy the love of play at such a beautiful place.

Kenny, thanks for the Birthday gifts and say howsit to the few guys that still remember "Old IZZO".

May all the "ballheads" live forever

Aloha, Boyd

Sunday - Sept 28, 2003 -- New 2003/2004 Season
It looks like the power has shifted in this new season with a few good players switching teams and a few new players entering the league, making this season look like it will be a lot more competitive.

Kevin F. & Mike A. quit Polli's to join up with the Good Strokes, while former Pounders sponsor & HSL Homerun Champ Shawn Steadman joined Wild Wheels to shake up the league a little more. These changes should make for a more balanced league and some great close games to come.

The season has already had some upsets worth noting. Polli's has lost their first 2 games, Long Shots upset No Hea with a come from behind 10 to 9 victory and the Strokes suddenly look like the team to beat with their 15 to 3 drubbing of King of the Road. But don't count out the Pounders.

Aloha, Boyd

Sunday - Nov 10, 2002 -- New season Underway
The new 2002/03 Winter season is underway with a few teams making improvments.

The Wheels have already doubled their win total from last year by beating No Hea 24 to 19 & Strokes 17 to 11. With no blowouts so far, Team No Hea has a much improved offense while losing two their first 2 games 24 to 19 & 11 to 10.

This season is a 21 game marathon with a break from Nov. 30 to Jan. 4th for the "MO"morial Tournament & Christmas, so there is a long way to go.

The stats section of this site has been automatted even more than last year, with the Standings page and Hotdog of the Week added to the program by Mike Fanara, making updating the site a lot easier - Thanks Mike. We've also added box scores to the standing page and the Team pages for every game.

Aloha, Boyd

Tuesday - December 25, 2001 -- Momorial Results
After being rained out on the scheduled weekend, the Momorial Tournament's 1st round was held on a cloudy but dry saturday. We lost 2 teams due to prior commitments to a tournament in Lahaina, reducing the field to 6 teams - Pounders, Strokes, Wheels, Motrin, Da Braddas & King of the Road.

It was a beautiful sunny Haliimaile day on sunday as the teams were narrowed down to a faceoff between the Pounders(winners bracket) and Da Braddas(losers bracket). The finals started out with a 2 hour game in which the Braddas put on an awesome hitting display scoring 11 runs in the 1st inning, 12 in the 3rd and 14 in the 7th to blast the Pounders 42-17.

The final finals game was a hard fought contest, which was Da Braddas 4th straight game. The game was tied at 9 after 5 innings with Da Braddas scoring 5 runs in the 6th, to the Pounders 1, to win the Championship.

Tournament awards were given out to the following players for outstanding play:
  • MVP: Tony Spear - Da Braddas
  • Batting Champ: Tony Spear - Da Braddas - 17-19 .895 avg.
  • RBI's: Mike Fanara - Da Braddas - 19 RBI's
  • Homeruns: Kevin Fanara - Da Braddas - 5 HR's (1 Grand Slam)
  • Gold Glove: Mark "Klash" Klaska - Pounders - 3rd base

The stats are current and correct. Thanks to Danno Niess, who supplied the stats for the last 2 games, I could compile the entire season (only took 5 hours) and they are correct through all games played in the Fall 2001 season and should be correct through season's end.

You can check them out here - Stats.

    Wednesday - October 10, 2001 -- New Message Board
The "new" message board is up & running. The old message board wouldn't work with our new server and neither would the messages or user profiles, so you'll have to sign up all over again if you want to post something.

You can check it out here - Forum.

We're really glad to see more people getting involved with this site. We've had game summaries submitted by Rob Parsons, Lenny Castellanos, Chuck McMillan, Woody and Steve Parabicoli. The stats were submitted by Dano Niess. Great going guys.

We really need someone to volunteer to send me the stats from each game every weekend after the games, so I can compile & post them for everyone to see and also, pick the "Hotdog of the Week".

If you have any suggestions or want to volunteer, please email me here.

    Aloha, Boyd

Sunday - May 28, 2001 -- New additions to the site.
The "Stats" page is ready for the season to start with the top ten in RBI, Batting Average and the Homerun races to be posted each week.
The "Teams/Players" & Baseball Card pages are ready for viewing - they take a while to load (w/56k) because of the graphics, so be patient. [A big thanks goes out to Chuck McMillan for all the hours he spent on the graphics & photos for the cards.]

We still need some of you long time members to write a short article about the History of the League or a classic experience, game or play.

    Aloha, Boyd
